My first post since coming back to the blog has to do with a group of Ladies that I did watch the entire season and the incredible improvements they have made with a new head coach, a new system and a new outlook on Women’s Basketball program. Here are 5 thoughts on the season and…

It has been a while since my last report and write up and there is a reason for that, and I might as well make it public. I have been sick. Very Sick, but not in the way that you think. No, I do not have cancer, or some other illness in that category. For…

Blogging the Blacklands would like to take this time to wish a happy birthday to legendary Coach Ernest Hawkins. Coach Hawk turned 90 over the weekend and it was attended by many former players and alums of ETSU/TAMUC. The profound impact that Coach Hawkins has had on the University and the football program has been…

Jason Burton has a lot to be smiling about after a 10-4 start and a place at the top of the conference. That smile just got bigger as the Lions took down Tarleton State 89-74. Khala Riley notched a game high 21 points and Artaejah Gay hit for 18 points. The Lions now are 10-4…

Ladies First, as always. The Women’s team picked up a huge win in Kingsville, grinding out a 78-71 victory, but could not hold off a top 5 Angelo State Rambelles team, dropping a 78-71 decision. My overall thoughts are this, the team is still young, but they have a ton a potential and I see…

These records were the toughest to pull and get due to the change of offense that has happened in Football over the past few years, so lets start with the career yards. Gary Compton, 3,041 Yards, 1987-1990 Wes Smith, 2,652 Yards, 1982-1985 Vernon Johnson, 2,608 Yards, 2013-2014 Randy Smith, 1,961 Yards, 1978-181 Dannie Rogers, 1,865…

2017 has started and before you know it it will be conference tournament time for the Basketball teams, Track starting, and then the annual Blue and Gold Spring Football game. A lot to get to as we start 2017 so lets right to it. The Women’s Basketball team heads into 2017, they head in with…

I just got off the phone with former Lion tailback Cary Noiel who informed me that former Lion linebacker Kennis Miles passed away. Miles was a 4 year letterman out of Waco, Texas and started for the Lions 1980 National Semifinalist team. He was a key cog in the defense that took the Lions the…

The Texas A&M-Commerce Lady Lions Basketball team rebounded from their loss against Eastern New Mexico to drop Western New Mexico 61-47. Arteajah Gay hit for 22 points to lead all scorers. The win pushes the Ladies to a 7-3 overall record, but most importantly, a 3-1 record in conference. HC Jason Burton said after the…

With Richard Cooper having a fine career in Commerce it was time to update the statistics in regards to the rushing game that we have in Commerce. Keeping accurate records is what we aim to do and also show everyone how the Lions of the current are now setting records of their own much like…

A lot to cover to lets right to it.   The Lady Lions Basketball team has started the season with their best record since the 2006-07 season. 6-2 and ranked 10th in the regional rankings so far, and most importantly 2-0 in conference. What was most impressive about their last victory was the 31-6 run…

TAMUC President Dr. Ray Keck and AD Tim McMurray have pulled  a fast one on us and decided to extend the contract of HC Colby Carthel until 202o. Just last season Carthel was extended until 2018 with options, but now it is apparent the school and Carthel are thinking long term to win and get…

First, I want to say congratulations to the GVSU Lakers. They are a heck of a football team. They are the second best team in the country for a reason. They executed their offense to near perfection, they made big time plays during critical parts of the game, and had enough firepower to pull away…

In our first ask the opponent edition in a while, BillyGVSU sits down with us to answer some questions about our opponent this Saturday. So here we go- BTB: What are your overall thoughts about the game?  GV: I think this will be a great game between two teams with history – the Lions hold…

This is by far the toughest team we have played since 2013 West Texas A&M’s team. GVSU is a team that expects to win year in and year out. We are going up against DII royalty and the establishment. This is a game that will show what we are made of. Offensive plan of attack……what…

Congrats the Texas A&M-Commerce Soccer team that had another fine season. The Ladies bowed out to Colorado-Mines in overtime 2-1, but had another great season. A 15-6-1 record and another conference championship is something to hang their hats on. I really believed this team had what it took to make a run and they did.…
