Ladies First, as always.

The Women’s team picked up a huge win in Kingsville, grinding out a 78-71 victory, but could not hold off a top 5 Angelo State Rambelles team, dropping a 78-71 decision. My overall thoughts are this, the team is still young, but they have a ton a potential and I see this team as a top 3 team in the LSC. HC Jason Burton has done a tremendous job in a such a short amount of time, and there was a lot to correct when he took the job. However, he has recruited well and has taken time to develop the current team and that is what you are seeing right now. HC Burton’s approach and plan of attack is playing out well on the court and that is why you see a team that is 9-4 and 4-2 in LSC play, and ranked 10th regionally. The Ladies head out to Stephenville to take on rival Tarleton State Tuesday night and then head back to Commerce to host Texas Women’s Saturday.

The Men’s team picked up 2 big victories, first taking care of business in Kingsville by downing the Hoggies in a close one 74-72. Then they followed it up by taking # 5 Angelo State to overtime and then taking down the Rams 97-89. This was a huge win for the Lions that puts them at 12-2 overall, 5-1 in the conference and moves them up to 2nd overall in the Super Regional Rankings. That is going to be big for NCAA Tournament consideration. The road does not get any easier as the Lions face another top ten team in rival Tarleton Tuesday night, but then host Arlington Baptist College in Commerce next Monday night. The game I have circled after the Tarleton game will be January 28th when Cameron comes back to Commerce, and the Lions will try to avenge their only LSC loss (hopefully it still will be at that point) but there is a lot of big time basketball to play. This team has showed itself to be a top 3 LSC team, and every year HC Walker continues to win more and win bigger games. His recruiting and game plan have both yielded fruits and I expect that to continue.
