Jason Burton has a lot to be smiling about after a 10-4 start and a place at the top of the conference. That smile just got bigger as the Lions took down Tarleton State 89-74. Khala Riley notched a game high 21 points and Artaejah Gay hit for 18 points. The Lions now are 10-4 overall and 5-2 in LSC play. It is truly exciting to see the Women competitive again, and not just competitive, but a conference elite so far. The Women take on Texas Women’s in Commerce on Saturday with a 2 PM Tip off.
Sam Walker’s squad dropped a rare loss and even more rare blowout. This is a team that rarely loses by the amount that Tarleton dropped on them Tuesday night. Disappointing to say the least, but HC Walker had some positive words and outlook after the game:
“I thought we played really hard. I’ve had teams that have been in this situation that just kind of took the foot off the gas. I thought the foot was on the gas but it just seemed like we were a step slow. Rebounds that we usually get that we break out and get a layup were rebounds we were steps slow to and they got a put back. We live off of that. That’s the reason why we scored 63 points when we are used to scoring close to 90. We missed those opportunities. We just didn’t have it tonight.”
Despite the disappointing loss, the Lions have the weekend off to regroup after a grueling 7 game stretch and face Arlington Baptist College Monday night to rebound from the loss, and then head back into LSC play next Thursday by hosting UT-Permian Basin for the first time as LSC foes. Tip is at 7:30 PM.
Finally, a very happy birthday for former TAMUC SID and ET grad Bill Powers. He is suffering in paradise as the SID at Hawaii Pacific University. He is and has been a great asset for information and guidance to the site. Happy birthday Bill!
