Today’s Lions for Life features a more recent guy who had a fantastic career in Commerce. Israel Hughes played for 4 seasons in Commerce and was a superb cornerback and defender, but what made him potent was how dangerous of a return man he was. D2football.com had said about Hughes prior to the 2010 season-…

In an era where Football has evolved past the idea of “three yards and a cloud of dust” and gone into “spread ’em and shred ’em, many current wide receivers are seeing themselves catch a lot of passes from well schooled quarterbacks and getting a lot of recorded yards and touchdowns. Before all of that,…

Texas A&M-Commerce has had a long list of great quarterbacks that have come through Commerce. Of those many signal callers, Bobby Bounds is in the argument for the greatest ever, and that includes names like Wade Wilson, Will Cureton, and Kyle Mackey. Bounds success over his 3 years as a starter is something that few…

First, let me apologize to the members of the golf team. I have not done a good nor adequate job in covering this fine group of linksters, and I will step up my coverage as they head into the post season. Now, sentiments out of the way, here is to the good news. The A&M-Commerce…

If you have the time, be sure to Turn into the Big 10 Network as Allen Roulette (Football, 85-88) will be officiating the Penn State Spring Game up in State College, Pennsylvania. For those who do not know, Allen has been officiating DI Football for a while and was a Big 12 ref. Commerce has…

It is a great honor to feature a man who I had the pleasure of watching in the NFL on TV, but never knew I would have the pleasure of personally knowing the man, and that is Curtis Buckley. Buckley was known as another ET Lion who went to the NFL and made an impact…

Today’s edition of Lions for Life features another Man that I have the privilege of calling a friend. When I first started this Blog, Cary Noiel was one of the first guys to reach out to me and really encouraged me in what I have been doing over the past few years. Cary is a…

Next man up is a guy that I really have a ton of personal respect for just because he is such a good guy, and that is Van Hargis. Van has a great college football story. He started his career at Austin College in Sherman, winning a NAIA National Championship as a member of the…

Historical figures often teach us lessons and mirror individuals and their own stories. There was once a man who sat on the throne of England named Richard The Lionhearted who earned his moniker by being known as a man with no fear, a cunning and tough warrior, and one who did not wish to be…

Per news sources and KETR Radio, the referendum to increase the student athletic fee from 21 Dollars to 32 dollars per semester passed overwhelmingly in a vote on Tuesday. Here are the details per Jerrod Knight with KETR Radio News- “The referendum sought an increase of $21.01 over the current $10.99 that students currently…

There are many men who are happy to just be “everyday” guys. Bobby Wolfe is one of those guys. Do not let that tag however make you think that Bobby Wolfe is ordinary. He lettered with the Lions from 1980-1982, blocking for future NFL QB’s Wade Wilson and Kyle Mackey, and played on a 1980…

Rarely do players get to experience 5 years of successful Football on the college level, but for Wideout Billy Minor (1988-1992), he is the exception that rule. Billy has been another great friend to this blog and to me personally. Here is Billy’s ET Lion File. Name: Billy Minor Hometown: Paris, TX High School: Paris…

One of the goals of this blog has always been to honor the former greats that have been through Commerce and worn the Blue and Gold. It is something that I have made a focal point of this blog. Some are greater than others, but I want to focus on all letterman of Old ET…

One of the goals of the blog when I first started was to bring attention to the great athletic traditions that Texas A&M-Commerce/ET State have. Basketball is one of the great sports that has not been really had a lot of attention paid to it. Perhaps it is because of the fact everyone knows about…

So, this news was somewhat shocking when I heard it. At first, I thought that perhaps Walker had decided to go to another school, but when the press release came out that he would be The Executive Director or Alumni Engagement, it was apparent that this was something that Walker had wanted to do, but…

I have not covered softball as much as I have the other sports. There are a lot of reasons for that, but when a team is having as much success as this team has had in such short amount of time, it is to be duly noted. Having had a program that is now in…

Track is a sport that I have often ignored, but it is one that ironically, I have some ties to, and also is a sport that TAMUC is rich in history in. The Lion’s Men team has won 22 LSC Track Championships and have had some serious history in the fact that Olympic Medalist and…

First off, disappointed how the season ended. I said in my preview against WT something was going to have to give from one team, and the offensive production and defensive lapses in the first half proved to be too deep a hold to crawl out of. Give full credit to WT, they were ready for…

Lions fall in the first round as their second half rally comes up short. Post Mortem write up tomorrow on the Lion’s season.

Two times this season, the Lions and Buffaloes have played each other. The first game was a fantastic 104-103 win for the Lions in a packed Fieldhouse that was full of offensive fireworks. The second time, the Buffs held off the Lions in Canyon by a 100-98 score. Now, the same two teams are meeting…
