Lion For Life-Vol.1, Edition 9-Israel Hughes

Today’s Lions for Life features a more recent guy who had a fantastic career in Commerce. Israel Hughes played for 4 seasons in Commerce and was a superb cornerback and defender, but what made him potent was how dangerous of a return man he was. had said about Hughes prior to the 2010 season-

“Any punter or kicker would be foolish to kick it to A&M-Commerce’s Israel Hughes. When people talk about a guy who can literally take a kick home anytime he touches the ball, Israel Hughes is REALLY ONE OF THOSE GUYS. He has great field vision, good cutbacks, and blazing open field speed and runs very hard nosed. He has All-American written all over him.”

Israel Hughes had a dynamite career in Commerce full of highlight reel returns and solid play. If anyone doubts how good he was, watch his film on Hudl or youtube. He was voted in last year’s poll to be Second time All Time Defense for the school. Like a lot of guys who played during the Morriss years he is overlooked because of the time frame he played in, but Hughes is one of the most talented Lions to ever done the Blue and Gold.

Hughes at his deadliest, returning the Football.
