Blacklands Report: Football # 4 in the Country, Soccer rebounds, Volleyball wins 4 straight, XC Team performs well in Arkansas.

A lot to cover, so lets get right to it.

The Newest AFCA polls came out today and the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions are now ranked # 4, the highest ranking in school history since we became part of the AFCA polling system in 2000. Now, as most know, the program has been ranked higher before multiple times in the all previous decades, but this is a big one for sure. Also, Midwestern State moved up to 7, so a top ten match-up in Commerce, Texas this Saturday. I just cannot wait. Also, major props are in order to Ovie Urevbu for notching LSC Special Teams player of the week. Congrats! We will have a lot to cover the next week, so the 5 thoughts tomorrow, Ask the Opponent on Wednesday, and other good stuff.

The Lady Lions Soccer team was tripped up in Denton against Texas Women’s giving them their first loss since the first week of the season, but notched a huge conference win against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. Delany Bunselmeyer hit the net in the 11th minute to put the Lions up for good. The Lions travel to Angelo State for a Friday Night Tilt with the Ramblles. The polls have the Ladies holding steady at number 11 heading into their matchup with ASU.

The Lion Volleyball has totally been playing a lights out Volleyball as they have notched 5 straight victories as they roared back against Midwestern State to notch their 10th win of the year and 4th conference win. This group has really played impressively over the past few weeks after starting the off 5-6 they are now 10-6 and 4-2 in LSC play. Craig Case’s group looks VERY GOOD and will head to New Mexico as they play Eastern New Mexico Friday Night then head off to play Western New Mexico for the Saturday night game in Silver City.

Cross Country-

The Lion Cross Country teams performed well in Fayetteville at the ChilliFest Meet, with the Ladies taking 19th out of 40 teams, and the men placing 18th out of 45 teams. Keep in mind that these are mainly Division I schools that the Lions are running against and the tougher the competition, the better the end result will be. The Lions will host the LSC Conference Championships. Turner Pool led the men with a 41st place finish while Brandy Stadler placed 50th to head the Women’s efforts. The teams get their final regular season tune-up this Saturday in Magnolia, Arkansas at the Lois Davis Invitational at Southern Arkansas University.

Finally, a big BTB Birthday Shoutout to one of the best kickers in school history and the leading scorer in program history, Billy Watkins! Billy is a great guy and BTB wishes him a happy birthday.

A Big Happy Birthday to Billy Watkins, just doing his thing like he did for 4 years in Commerce, America.
