Instant Reaction-Tusla-42, East Texas A&M-0

  1. A game where we looked like at first we would put up a fight, or at least make it interesting. It got less interesting as the Hurricanes poured on the points. I thought the defense would be our saving grace, but it was obvious they were exhausted and the flood gates opened and what was a competetive game turned into a blowout.
  2. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Quarterback. Eric Rodriguez is hurt bad. Jack Jacobs had not seen a start or any meaningful action at quarterback since he was a SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL, Reese Mooney is has only played in 4 college games (5 after today) and they were JUCO games and spent this past offseason rehabbing a seasong ending injury, and Luke Glass is a TRUE FRESHMAN. Those are are our 4 Quarterbacks. The one you have to find (assuming they are healthy) is the one that runs the offense and doesn’t turn it over. I want a playmaker, but sometimes those playmaker can cause issues with holding onto the football. I have no idea what the situation at QB looks like.
  3. You might want to look into the 4 headed monster we have at running back. EJ Oakmon, Quay Middlebrooks, Jordan Hamilton, and Major McBride. Those guys are the horses we might want to ride in this offense. Going back to Quarterback, you really only have two options at this point, but one of them needs to hear “You are the starter, you are the backup, and we will need you both to be ready, and we will rally around you and play good football.”
  4. I have to give Tulsa their flowers. They are just outside the FBS top 25 and a good team. They will probably win 8-9 games and get to a decent bowl. They play tough physical defense and like I said in my podcast, love to run it, and run it they did.
  5. The defense played fairly ok, mainly in the first half, but they made up for it by not tackling. It was the worst exhibition of tackling I had seen in a long time. They played very well last week, and outstanding against Mercer, but they are not worthy of Blue Gang status yet, not until they put two games together.
  6. Special teams was nothing special. Our return coverage continues to have problems allowing a kickoff return right as the second half started, and if the line cannot protect Ozlo Rigby on a kick he should hit, but has to rush it, and the tackling on basically all the returns was awful. This side of the ball is the biggest liability and it all has to do with the little things.
  7. Southland Play starts next week. Next week is going to tell us if we end up a 1 win ball club this season or if we can put all this junk behind us and learn to win.
  8. Side NOTE: To whoever our assistant coach was that yelled at a referee from the press box that he was a “c**k s****r”……..everyone and their dog heard that from Commerce to Tulsa and back. They heard it in the stadium, they heard live on on air. Everyone heard it. Thanks for dirtying up our institution even more. You are supposed to be a grown up and mentor to these kids. Act like it.

Roar Back Here.....
