Time To Hunt: # 4 Lion Women Host # 9 Lubbock Christian

This Thursday night is probably the biggest home game that has ever been played for the Texas A&M-Commerce Lion Women Basketball team. The 19-0 Lion women will host a team that until recently, was the number 1 team in the nation. The 16-2 Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian are coming in to the University Fieldhouse knowing that their once spotless season is no more, and they are looking for redemption.

For the Lion Women, this season has been an improvement and a continuation of what Head Coach Jason Burton has been building since he arrived in 2014. Every year, the Lion women’s program has been steadily trending upward, with last season being their first NCAA postseason appearance in 11 years and only their second in program history. Burton took a program that had been in the lower tier for most of it’s existence and has made them not only conference, but national title contenders. This is the highest a Texas A&M-Commerce Lion Women’s team has ever been ranked. Not since the 2006-07 season has there been more excitement about this team.

To Lion supporters: Make sure your rear end is in a seat Thursday night inside of the Fieldhouse. Get loud, and get rowdy. Cheer this team on to their biggest victory of their regular season, and see if we cannot get a glimpse of a team that might be good enough to win it all, not next year, not in 5 years, but this year.

These Ladies have worked tremendously hard over the past 5 seasons to get them to this point, and now the eyes of all of NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball will be on them. No game being played tomorrow night is as big as this one. The coaching staff has worked harder than just about any coaching staff to rise this program from the ashes, and the players have worked hard in the classroom and on the court to get to this point. They have planted the seeds, and now it is time to harvest.

Tip time is at 5:30 PM, and if you cannot make it, the game will be on KETR 88.9 in Commerce with Charlie Chitwood on the call, or you can stream the game for 8 dollars at lionathletics.com.
