Your weekly Monday Morning Dose of all things A&M-Commerce Lion related. Let’s get to it.
The Lion Volleyball squad faces off against conference foe Arkansas-Fort Smith in the first round of the NCAA D2 Volleyball tournament on Thursday night at 6 PM at the Regis University Fieldhouse in Denver. The Lions split the season series with UAFS during the regular season. Should the Lions move on, they would face the winner of top ranked Regis and MSU-Denver on the 6th at 8:30.
The Lion Women’s Basketball team is out to one of it’s best starts in years. Ranked # 20 and 7-0, the Lions defeated # 18 Southeastern Oklahoma State and then followed that up with a 74-50 win over Northeastern State. The Lions face St. Edwards in Austin on Saturday night and have a week off before starting conference play in Tyler against Texas-Tyler on December 14th. There is something about this squad that appears to be Championship quality so far as Jason Burton’s squad is out to a tremendous start. Keep it rolling, Ladies.
At 3-3, the Men’s squad hosts Oklahoma Arts and Sciences Friday night at the University Fieldhouse and open LSC play in Tyler against UT-Tyler on the 14th.
The Lion football team at 11-2 gets ready to take the 900 mile trip to face Minnesota State Mankato in the Super Region 4 Championship game. 2 years ago, this was the same matchup in the Super Region 4 title game. The Mavericks are undefeated and Champions of the Northern Sun Conference. This is the 3rd straight unbeaten and top 10 team the Lions have faced in the playoffs this year. Russ will have his offensive and defensive analysis while Billy will have his thoughts on the matchup to this point. Dominique Ramsey is now fully back on defense, and we hope to have updates on Antonio Lealiiee and other injured Lions. Many people have asked if the Lions win Saturday could they host the Semifinal. The answer is yes, there is a chance and in my opinion, a strong one. What happens is after the Regional Championship games, the 4 remaining teams get reseeded, and the committee decides who the top 2 teams are, and those teams get to host. We would have a strong case, having beaten 3 top ten teams on the road.
