Another Busy Weekend, let’s get to it.
The Lions dropped an overtime heartbreaker to Emporia State in Commerce to lose their first game of the year. Still a 2-1-1 record is promising after the tough quality of opponents. The Lions take the hour trip up north to East Central Oklahoma where they take on the Tigers this Saturday before returning home to start conference play in Commerce against Lubbock Christian on September 26th.
Craig Case and company had a weekend with mixed results. They started off by defeating the defending National Champion and # 1 ranked team in the country, Tampa University, but then fell to Regis University in the next match. They rebounded to defeat West Florida in the Semifinal round of the Silver bracket but then fell to 12th ranked Central Missouri. The Lions are now 5-3 overall and will host Texas A&M-Kingsville this Friday to start LSC play.
Both the Men and Women’s Cross Country Team head to Missouri to take place in the Missouri Southern Stampede this Saturday. They are off for 2 weeks then to the Chili Pepper Invitation hosted by the University of Arkansas.
After the nail biter in the Pacific Northwest, the Lions return home to face the ground and pound triple option attack of the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. As usual we will have more in-depth analysis as the week goes on. It is a big game as not only is it the LSC opener, but the ComUniverCity day game which honors the town, the communities around it, and the University Community and is usually the largest regular season draw for attendance. Just a few quick thoughts.
- Will we see a more diverse set of offensive playcalling?
- How will the 4-2-5 defend the option and flexbone attack of ENMU?
- Will the large crowd that is anticipated be able to will the Lions to a big win?
- Can we play clock control and keep away from a team that does the exact same thing?
- Can we keep playing football that is overall clean and disciplined?
