The A&M-Commerce Women’s Basketball team notched their 7th straight win and Jason Burton became the program leader in Lone Star Conference Career victories as the Lions defeated Tarleton State last Tuesday night in Commerce and followed that up with a 78-63 win over Texas Women’s also in Commerce. After starting the season of 4-4, the Women are now 10-4 and 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference. This is a group that is playing very hard and very good basketball right now. Agang Tac has established herself as a prime rebounder and inside threat for the Lions, while the scoring threats continue to produce offensively.
The Ladies hit the road this weekend as they take on West Texas A&M who is 13-1 overall, ranked in the D2 Top 25, and 5-1 in LSC play. The Lady Buffs have another strong team and their one loss was to Texas A&M-Kingsville in Kingsville. Tip off is at 5:30 in Canyon on Thursday night. They then trek further west to take on the Zias of Eastern New Mexico Saturday Night. All games can be caught via Live Stream at Lionathletics.com or listened to via 88.9 KETR in Commerce or ketr.org.
The Men’s Squad once again finds themselves ranked in the NCAA Top 25, checking in at # 24 after an impressive win over Tarleton State in Commerce, 76-64. At 13-2 and in firm command of first place in the LSC, they will face yet another ranked team in West Texas A&M Saturday in Canyon. The Buffs are 16-3 and 5-1 in LSC play, putting them just behind the Lions for LSC’s Top notch. Like their Lady Lion Counterparts, they will head to Eastern New Mexico before returning to host Western New Mexico and UT-Permian Basin. The LSC is proving to not just be a tough Football conference, but tough Basketball conference and will only get tougher when all the former Heartland Conference Schools join next year.
