Let’s get to it-
The 21st ranked Lion Volleyball Squad finished the regular season with wins over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M. With a 25-5 record overall and a 17-3 conference mark, the Ladies are just now starting their quest to keep their season alive. The Lone Star Conference Tournament will be held in Stephenville and the Lions take on 7th seeded Texas-Permian Basin, a team the Lions beat both times in the regular season. Should they win, they will face the winner of Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. More than likely if the Lions want to win this tournament, they will have to go through a Tarleton State squad that won the LSC regular season tournament in the finals should they make it that far. The tournament starts November 8, and the Lions play their quarterfinal match at 2 PM.
The TAMUC Lions Soccer team ended their season in a disappointing fashion by dropping a quarterfinal match to Eastern New Mexico 0-2 in another game that had to be moved to Rockwall due to weather. Weather was very much a factor in this year’s season, as many matches were moved or rained out due to the monsoon like weather we had this fall. The Lions finish at 9-8 overall, but I do believe that next year, you will see a much better team. This team was YOUNG. 14 Freshman or Sophs on this team, and only graduating 3 seniors, this will be a team that put up a winning season in an always tough conference. Expect them to be back to winning double digit matches next season. I will.
The Lion Cross Country teams competed in the LSC Championships in Canyon, with the Men Finishing 5th and the Women taking 8th place. Now, both teams will be preparing for the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Denver on November 17th. Any individual that places 20th or better gets to the National Championships on December 2nd.
The Women’s Basketball team faced Baylor, ranked # 2, and the Lions were on the wrong side of a 127-65 defeat. That being stated, this is a team that is facing a team that this usually in the national title conversation in Division I, The Lions tip off their season this Friday in Lubbock at the TAJ Classic against Colorado State Pueblo and then take on Metro State. The first home game is November 16th against St. Edwards.
The Lions play an exhibition game against UT-Rio Grande Valley Tuesday Night in Edinburg before tipping off in Lawton on Friday Night, where they face Oklahoma Christian and then Newman the night after. First Home Game will be against Our Lady of the Lake University from San Antonio on November 13th. Will have thoughts on the upcoming season in a write up to come shortly.
New AFCA polls and updated regional rankings will be up later today. Stay tuned to the Lion Wire Facebook page for updates and breaking news.
