Former Baylor Bear Cornerback and Jim Thorpe Award Nominee Travon Blanchard will be joining the TAMUC Football team after making the decision via Twitter to come North to Commerce.
Blanchard was a 3 year starter at Baylor and was also an All Big 12 Selection as a Sophomore and a Junior. A product of West Orange Stark, he has all the right skills as a superb defensive back and will make the Lions that much better in such a key spot. Whether he starts Thursday Night is to be seen but he will certainly play.
Now, I know, some of you are thinking, what is the deal here? Talked with a few Baylor alums and they love the guy. They think he is a great player and a great guy who got railroaded by overzealous Baylor Regents and the new culture of punishing everyone and anyone for anything they might be accused of doing. Not to mention, he did have a run in with the law back in The Summer. That HAS TO be addressed. I have no idea what happened, but I trust Colby Carthel letting this guy on the team, and Lord willing, it will work out well for him and us.
More later.
