Congrats the Texas A&M-Commerce Soccer team that had another fine season. The Ladies bowed out to Colorado-Mines in overtime 2-1, but had another great season. A 15-6-1 record and another conference championship is something to hang their hats on. I really believed this team had what it took to make a run and they did. The Lions lose quite a bit of talent, but a lot is ready to take their place. Congrats to HC Neil Piper and his crew!
Congrats to Lion QB Luis Perez who has been named a Harlon Hill award nominee, meaning that he is considered one of the 42 best players in the country. The list gets cut the further down the season goes, so Perez has a lot to play for as the Lions winning meaning his odds of winning increase. Perez was also named the best Quarterback in the Conference by the coaches, the first Lion QB to win it since Cole Cayce in 1996. Congrats to Luis!
I am looking for the final regional rankings, but it the Lady Lion Volleyball team is holding on to the final seed in the regional rankings that would get them to the NCAA tournament. Losing to Eastern New Mexico probably will not help their cause, but like Football and Soccer, it is all about Strength of Schedule. I would hope that this group gets in, but I do not expect anything but higher next year if not this year.
Basketball season is in full swing….so Ladies first. Ladies have started out the season 3-1, only dropping to a very good Colorado Pueblo team. The Ladies have Ouachita Baptist on Wednesday, then take the short trip up Highway 78 across the border to Durant, OK to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Sam Walker’s cagers have started out the year well themselves at 3-0, all convincing wins. The Lions host Southern Arkansas Tuesday in Commerce and then head to Tarleton State the day after Thanksgiving with Emmanuel College out of Georgia.
This week will mainly heavily into the game with Grand Valley State, so tomorrow I will have the 5 thoughts and questions. Heres to a great week.
