BREAKING: TAMUC Names Former Quarterback Jeff Cleveland as New Director of Athletic Advancement for Texas A&M University-Commerce

Former ETSU Lion Quarterback Jeff Cleveland, who played for Coach Eddie Vowell in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s has come home for the second time to serve as the University’s Athletic Director for Athletic Advancement. He replaces Keith McCluney who left the athletic department at the end of the last semester, as the Lion Wire accurately reported in December.

Cleveland was a star Quarterback at Coppell High School in Coppell in the 1980’s. He played for Coach Eddie Vowell during a fruitful stretch of of Lion Football. He was the Athletic Director for Commerce ISD and Head Football Coach from 2014-2017 and then at Scurry-Rosser ISD in the same two positions from 2018-2022.

Cleveland graduated from East Texas State with a degree in both History and Kinesiology.

  1. Oh my! History is repeating itself once again at TAMUC Athletics. If you need a high-profile position filled in the Athletic Department just hire an old ETSU QB with no experience in college athletics for the position. They are now two for two. Maybe, they will buck the trend with the hiring of a new Athletic Director. What a dumpster fire!

            • This reminds me of a scene in Mississippi Burning when Gene Hackman tells Brad Dourif’s character “The other guys were too smart to avoid being detected, you were too stupid not to.” Heres the deal Rick, Richard or whatever you call yourself, quit posting on our page like some teenage manchild troll, or we out you to EVERYONE as to who has been doing it. I took a screenshot of your Facebook page to let everyone know. So, if you are smart, or have enough of a functioning amount of intelligence, you will stay away from both the site and the page. You have been warned.
