Impact Players-

Quarterback Jaiave Magalei-For now, the Tacoma, Washington native is QB1 for the Lions and is a lot like injured for now Miklo Smalls. Magalie does not have to win this game on his own. He has all the ability to be a playmaker, but sticking to routine plays for now and playing within the system should be enough. If he stays within himself and makes some big plays, it could be a long night for a dilapidated CSUP front 7.

Running Backs Carandale Hale, EJ Thompson, & Antonio Leali’ie’e.- The 3 headed monster in the backfield that has size, speed, smarts, and the biggest of them all, experience will return for their Senior years. They must get going to grind CSUP down and tire them out physically.

Wideout Chance Cooper-This guy has been seeing time since the 2018 season and has been the go to guy for the Lions since 2019. He returns with the hope of being the guy once again and turning those yards into touchdowns.

Wideout Kenedy Snell-The TCU transfer has seen the big time, now it is time for him to bring the big time to a program that needs an offense to score early and often.

Lineman Amon Simon-The Preseason All-American anchors what might be the best offensive line in the entire country. His play, along with that of Travis Daft, Richard West, and Christian Hernandez, will serve as the catalyst for how well the offense runs keeping QB Magalei upright and opening holes for whoever carries the ball for the Lions.

D-Lineman Jaylon Hodge-The returning All-LSC performer anchors a defensive line that must put pressure on CSUP’s new offensive backfield.

D-Lineman Devon Beamon-2019 was the Junior from Forney’s coming out party. Look for more results this year as he looks to get into the backfield a lot and help Hodge anchor the D-Line.

Defensive Back Dominique Ramsey-If you know, you know. He is the best overall football player on the field. If he has a big game, the Lions are almost impossible to beat.

Defensive Back Kader Kohou-His partner in defense Ramsey on one side, him on the other. If he touches the ball, get ready for fireworks.

Defensive Back Alex Shillow-Part 3 of the start studded Lion backline, he will look to lead the Lion DB’s in forcing stops and getting turnovers.

Placekicker Jake Viquez-If this is a close game, his leg might be the difference between a win and a loss. He has been waiting for this for 6 years now.

Storylines-

Finally. After all this time. It does feel like Christmas as a kid where you are ready to open your present and see what is in that big box. Lion nation is excited and the expectations are higher than they have ever been in Commerce. The players, the coaches, the fans, the students, the alums all have high hopes that this is just one step in a 16 week journey to McKinney ISD Stadium to play for the program’s 3rd national championship. They do it against a team that is not to be taken lightly. One way or another CSUP just seems to get our number. This is the year where David Bailiff and Company have their shot to tell the college football world that this team is the cumulation of 2 years of begging to get back on the field, and starting with a win over a team that has given The Lion issues would be a tremendous start on the road of all things. The CSUP and RMAC message boards are unanimous that they believe the Lions don’t have a shot to win. Can anyone say bulletin board material? It’s time make a loud and proud statement, and that starts tonight. Not every critic will be silenced if The Lions win, but it will be a great start, and hopefully we will get around to silencing them too.

Note: We will have quarter by quarter scores posted on the site and also have scoring updates on the Lion Wire Facebook page.

Here is the rest of the LSC action this weekend-

Angelo State @ Lindenwood-Rams win this one.

West Texas A&M VS. Texas College-Buffs cruise to an easy victory.

Texas-Permian Basin @ Southwest Baptist-Falcons win their season opener.

Midwestern State @ Quincy-Mustangs take this one in a close road affair.

Eastern New Mexico Vs. Central Washington-Greyhounds play hard, but fall to the Wildcats.

Texas A&M-Kingsville @ Saginaw Valley State-The Hoggies face a long trip and a longer ride home after an opening loss.

Western New Mexico @ Adams State-The Mustangs play hard, but lose a close affair in The Rocky Mountains.
