The Morning Wire: April 12

Your Monday Morning Dose of all things Lion related. Let’s get to it.

Track-

Both the Lion Men and Women won the respective team titles at the East Texas State in Commerce. The Lion Women’s track team is ranked # 10 national polls, while the Men are ranked at 11th. Both scored 1st out of 30 teams in the invitational and the meet usually sets the precedent for the season, so this was a strong start to the Spring track season. There are no scheduled meets until the LSC Championships at West Texas A&M on May 6th.

Softball-

The 4th ranked Lion softball team split a double header with Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Lion Women are 3rd in the LSC, and trailing top seeded UT-Tyler by 3 games. It looks as if all the roads to this the LSC regular season title lead to the first weekend of May as the Lions will host the Lady Patriots at the Cain Complex for 4 games. The Lions will have a 4 game home stand against St Edwards and then St. Mary’s before heading out to Cameron for a weekend stand with the Aggies in Lawton.

Golf-

The Lion Men took second place at the Dallas Baptist Invitational last weekend, and this weekend is LSC Championship weekend in Arlington. The Lions are in the running for the LSC title, but in these individual combo/team sports, it all comes down to how the entire team performs in a matter of 2-3 days. The Lion Women took the West Texas A&M team Championship for their second team win of the season. The Lion Women start their quest for the LSC title this Morning at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington and ends Wednesday, like their male counterparts, the Women are very much in the running for the LSC title.

Football-

This Saturday, The Lion football team plays in the annual Blue/Gold game, and the fact that it has been a year since we had it cancelled due to the COVID pandemic makes me thankful. The game kicks off at 2 and Russ has done a great preview on the Lion Wire page, so take a look at it and we hope to see you all there and we seriously are thankful to God that things appear to be getting back to normal in our lives and this is just one way to celebrate it.
