Two years ago, Lion Legend Wade Wilson left us far too soon. He was one of the best to ever wear the blue and gold. As great a player and coach that he was, Wade was a far better friend. I won’t bother listing the numbers and success Wade enjoyed both in Commerce and the National Football League. They’re more than well known.
Having played with, and known Wade, I will admit my bias. He’ll always be a part of the endless debate: “Who was better? Wade? Luis Perez? Bobby Bounds? Will Cureton?” Wade will always be The Man for me. He was one of those rare breeds that you believed as long as he was on our side, and we could get him the ball, we had a chance to win.
The serious demeanor and countenance often hid a fun loving sense of humor. He wasn’t above throwing passes to defensive linemen running routes against the secondary at Friday walkthroughs, and harmless locker room pranks.
'May your hands always be busy May your feet always be swift May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes shift May your heart always be joyful May your song always be sung May you stay...forever young. Bob Dylan
I’ll end this with something Wade would say…..”Be Absurdly Kind.”
Will do.
