Finally we showed a glimpse of what we could be. The 2nd half was as solid play as we have seen from the Lions. Of course we still have a few kinks to work on but that was definitely great to see. I know the Little Piggies thought they had escaped the Lions den headed into halftime but came out to the realization that the Lion had simply been playing with it’s food prior to devouring them. Next up…Mustangs!
The last few seasons Midwestern has been a thorn in our paws for the most part. We got past that somewhat last season with a two day, two stadium knock out, drag out battle last season and finally we get to face them in the friendly confines of the den we like to call “The Hawk.” It couldn’t have come at a more better time for the Lions. The Mustangs have been in a struggle the last few weeks to find themselves and have suffered a couple of, dare I say, unexpected losses. Maybe they are not as good as originally advertised but then again, we cannot afford to chance it.
These guys deserve to get the best we have to offer. My comrade Russ will tell you how susceptible they are to the run and other aspects we appear to have a notable advantage at heading into the match up Saturday. Again I say it will mainly boil down to execution. If we execute, we should win this game easily and what a joy that would be. If not, it will be a struggle and no one in Lion Country wants to see that. So lets show up and support our Lions with a packed house watch them do what Lions do!
Saturday also is the HOF induction luncheon along with the Letterwinners’ Weekend as well as Youth Sports Day. A special time for old-timers like myself. This one is even better as 2 more of my teammates make their call for the HOF. Jim White played center on two of the most prolific offenses our school has had back in 90 and 91. 2-time 1st team all-LSC and also a Don Hansen Football all-american to boot. It is an honor that is long overdue and I am looking forward to the ceremony. Then there is the guy who slung the ball to me my final season. Clint “Catfish” Dolezel. We only began to tap the talent he had in 92 and I would have loved to see how he would have performed in the playoffs that year after he helped lead us to 5 straight wins to close out the season and we were clicking on all cylinders. Another guy who is long overdue for his call as he went on after ETSU to win multiple titles in the arena league as a player and coach. Can’t wait to see both these guys as well as the other nominees this weekend. Best way to top such a great Saturday off is with a big win against the little Ponies… #seeyouatthehawk
