The Morning Wire: April 8

Spring Sports in Full Swing with just about a month to go in the school year, so lets get to it.

Softball-

Lion softball squad moved their record to 33-9 overall as they defeated Texas Women’s during a 3 game stand at John Cain Field in Commerce. The Ladies hit the road and head to Stephenville for a Weekend 3 game set with Tarleton State and then head back to Austin for an in-Region tilt against St. Edwards. They return home the Weekend of the 26th hosting Cameron. They are currently at # 10 in the nation. Here are the LSC Softball Standings as of Sunday, April 7. The top 3 spots are very tight between TAMU-Kinsville, The Lions, and West Texas A&M.

Golf-

History is possibly in the making for the Women’s golf program as they sit ranked 10th in the latest regional rankings. Though they have sent individuals to the Regional and National Golf Championships, they have never gone as a team. The top 12 teams in each region go, and here are the current standings.

This would be a huge step for the Women’s Golf Program at A&M-Commerce. They will participate in a 2 day event at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, today and tomorrow. The Lone Star Conference Championships are April 22-23 in Abilene. The Men, fresh off their win at the Dallas Baptist Invitational, will also travel to Arkansas for the UAFS tournament.

Track and Field-

The Men’s team took 2nd place at the Noble relays at Angelo State while their Women counterparts took 6th place. This weekend promises to be a big one as the Lions host their own meet, the East Texas State Invitational at Memorial Stadium in Commerce this weekend. The Men took second in their quad meet 3 weeks ago while the Women were Champions. Looks to be an interesting set of teams coming to Commerce. Then on Saturday, both squads head to Baton Rouge for the Louisiana State Invitational, where there will no doubt be some serious squads to compete against in preparation for the LSC Championships the first weekend in May.

Also, I wanted to mention, that on April 27th, there will be the 3rd Annual Dan Jones Memorial 5k Fun Run and Walk. Registration is at Ferguson Hall off Education Drive behind the main sorority halls on the Campus. All proceeds to go the Dan Jones Memorial Fund. Dr Jones was our beloved President from 2009 until his death in 2016. The event is being sponsored by the Chi Omega Sorority at Texas A&M-Commerce.
