A few final pieces of post season accolades, so let’s get to it.
The Final AFCA polls have come out, and for the 3rd straight season, Texas A&M-Commerce finishes the season ranked in the top ten to end the year. The Lions ranked 9th in the country, and one would think it was two convincing wins over competent Squads such as Angelo State and West Texas A&M, along with a big win over Midwestern, and thorough beating of the fifth ranked team in the country in the first round of the playoffs, and almost beating Tarleton State in a rematch. A lot to be proud of.
Kristov Martinez is closely approaching consensus All-American Status, as he was named to 4 All-American teams, first Team AFCA, First Team Associated Press, First Team Co-SIDA and Second Team D2CCCA.
Congrats are in order to perhaps the biggest playmaker on this year’s team, Dominique Ramsey, who notched first team All-American honors. Returning punts and interceptions for Touchdowns this year, Ramsey has two more years with us and he has been a playmaker extraordinaire this past season. Congrats to him.
Also, Martinez, along with Garrett Blubaugh were both named to the Google Academic All-American team. Martinez was first team, while Blubaugh, a future Med school student, was named to the second team. I love the academic awards that we are seeing coming from all sports, but especially from Football.
Congrats to Brucks Saathoff, who for the second straight year has been named a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, which goes to the top college defensive player in Division II, Division III and the NAIA. Saathoff was nominated last year as well. Let’s pull for him, as the award will be given on December 24th and the ceremony will be held at the touchdown club in Little Rock, Arkansas on January 10th.
Basketball-
Congrats to Willie Rooks, who took home LSC Defensive player of the week awards for the week of December 12th. The Lions hit the court December 30th at the Fieldhouse in Commerce against Texas A&M-International.
Volleyball-
Congrats to Senior Jaslyn Wacker, who continued to rake in the post season awards. She was named to the Google Academic All-American second team. The Accounting Major from Austin has had one of the best Careers for any Volleyball player in Lion History and she is the model of what a TAMUC student athlete strives to be. Congrats to her!
