This is a critical stretch for the Lion Women’s team. Let’s take a look at where they are now and where their season could go from here.
Overall record: 17-9
Conference Record: 13-5
Home Record: 10-4
Road Record: 7-5
Against Ranked Teams: 1-1
What is left:
Thursday 2/22 Versus West Texas A&M @ University Fieldhouse, Commerce, TX
Saturday 2/24 Versus Texas-Permian Basin @ University Fieldhouse, Commerce, TX
Lone Star Conference Tournament: March 1-3, Frisco, TX
Overall Opining: The Lions have come a long way since Jason Burton took over almost 4 years ago. This has been a big time improvement and we have not seen this level of success in over a decade. The Lions have a good shot at making the tournament, but 3 things have to happen. They have to beat West Texas A&M at home. That should get them almost to the tournament door, but beating Permian Basin is an absolute must. A loss in either game means they probably have to win the Lone Star Conference Tournament and get to the dance as the conference at large bid.
Currently, the Lions are ranked 10th in the conference. They have one big fat opportunity to change their fortunes Thursday Night in Commerce. West Texas A&M is ranked third in the region, a win over the Lady Buffs would be enormous and take a lot of pressure off the Lions, but following that up with a win over UTPB is just as big.
