Before I say anything else I would like to thank all of the people who have been checking up on me. I have been pretty ill the past 3 days. Getting better and hoping to head back to work tomorrow but I am pressing on as much as I can. Anyway, to business.
Another preseason poll was released, placing the Lions as the sixth best team in the country. Street & Smith is a pretty reputable group of writers and a solid source of College Football information. Here is the poll-
1. | Northwest Missouri State |
2. | Grand Valley State |
3. | California (Pa.) |
4. | Emporia State |
5. | Ferris State |
6. | A&M-COMMERCE |
7. | Southwest Baptist |
8. | Colorado State-Pueblo |
9. | Bemidji State |
10. | Valdosta State |
11. | Indiana (Pa.) |
12. | Minnesota-Duluth |
13. | Shepherd |
14. | North Alabama |
15. | Azusa Pacific |
16. | Edinboro |
17. | Sioux Falls |
18. | Colorado School of Mines |
19. | Central Missouri |
20. | Assumption |
21. | West Chester |
22. | LIU Post |
23. | Winston-Salem State |
24. | Colorado Mesa |
25. | Texas A&M-Kingsville |
Schools that are in bold and highlighted are teams that the Lions will either play this season or are in the Super Region 4, teams the Lions would very well face in the playoffs. Defending Champions Northwest Missouri are the top team while Grand Valley State, the team that beat the Lions in the NCAA Second Round are ranked 2nd.
Congrats to Jared Machorro, Senior Offensive Lineman from Coldspring, TX who was named first team Preseason All-American. Machorro was the anchor of an offensive line that kept Luis Perez upright for most of the season and provided running lanes for Richard Cooper.
Congrats are in order to former Lion Signal Caller Deric Davis (2012-2014). Davis is the starting quarterback for the Fort McMurray Monarchs Football Club in Canada. The Monarchs are a member of the Alberta Football League, a League which plays a second ring to the Canadian Football League. The CFL would be the Canadian equivalent of the NFL in Canada, the AFL would be the equivalent of either the former USFL or the Arena Football League. Just one step from near the top.
Davis is doing outstanding as the Monarch’s starting Quarterback. The Monarchs are 2-0 and Davis has thrown 9 touchdown passes and rushed for one while accounting for over 500 yards of total offense. Send some good vibes Deric’s way as he continues to work hard for his goal.
JUST A HEADS UP, REGIONS WERE REDEFINED. GVSU AND FERRIS STATE ARE NO LONGER IN REGION 4. REGION 4 IS NOW THE LSC, RMAC, NSIC AND GNAC.
