My apologies for the lack of writing the past couple of weeks. Things have been strange with the passing of Dr. Jones and then I turned 30 last Friday, so to say things have been crazy is an understatement. First, Lion nation needs to continue to pray for the Jones family as they are in the midst of this tough transition and terrible event. Time has passed but grieving is a long process so keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
So….here is what has been going on.
Richard Cooper and Shane Thompson were both named All-Americans by D2Football.com. Cooper, a Junior tailback from Angleton, TX rushed for 1,380 yards and was a fine compliment to the passing game that helped the Lions stay as one of the top offenses in the nation. Shane Thompson, a graduating Senior from Keller, TX, was also named to the All-American team by anchoring an offensive line that produced two 1,000 yard rushers and helped QB Harrison Stewart stay upright and finish 12th in the country in yards per completion. Congrats to both!
Lions Going Pro-
Congrats to Davarus Shores, who signed a 2 year deal with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. Shores was one the most important players on the Lions defense and special teams. Super happy for this guy, he was a walk on in 2012 but worked his way up the depth chart to be one of the top defenders in the conference. The BC Lions are the CFL’s oldest team and won the Grey Cup (The CFL Championship) in 2011.
Also, huge congrats to Lion All-American Toni Pulu, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions. Another Lion in the League. Pulu was second team All-American and First team All-LSC and was tabbed pre-season Defensive player of the year in 2015.
End of the Year-
Per Lionathletics.com, here is a link to the end of the year awards that were doled out at the University Athletic Banquet. It is quite a list.
Other Sports-
Major congrats are in order for the Lady Lions Softball team. 37 wins and an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament in only year 2 shows what a great group we have in the program. Congrats to Coach Bruister and the crew!
The Track and Field Teams also finished 3rd in the Men’s Division and 4th in the Women’s Division, once again having a strong showing for Lion Track and Field.
I will be having some stepped up write ups in the Future as I ease back into this.
Next write up will the long awaited group who should be in the Hall of Fame.
