Lions Hoops-Men and Women both fall in Kingsville.
Women get beaten 80-55.
Men get nipped at the last second 75-74.
Snap: It might be time to start panicking. Maybe not panic, but show concern. When it comes to the Women, every single game they play from here on out will determine if they get to go the tournament or not, and right now, it looks like they are not heading in the right direction. I have no idea why the season has gone south like it has, but after last year, and the way it ended, into the Semi-Final game and beating ACU before they went to Division I, this has been disappointing for sure. I hate to say it, but the early and very shocking start may have set a negative time. Very disappointing. It is looking like next year cannot get here fast enough, and that is a shame based on the way the season was last year and the hopes everyone had for this season.
For the Men, it is dejavu all over again. Great start to the season, top 25 ranking, and then conference play starts and a 12-1 start is now a 14-8 team. I mean for the past 3 seasons, great starts and disappointing finishes. One thing I always think about when I think about HC Sam Walker is how level headed he is in regards to the team. He was not super pumped and talking about how great his group was doing when they were ranked and undefeated, and he is not trashing the team now that the team has hit a rough patch. At some point you have to put some on the players for blowing leads and not winning crucial must wins, especially at home. I really have no idea what is going on, but every single game is crucial from this point on and that is really all there is to it.
Both Groups back in Action soon, Men take on Angelo State for a 4 PM tip time in Commerce at University Fieldhouse, and the Women head back home for a date next Wednesday against Eastern New Mexico.
On a brighter note, huge props are in store for Paris, Texas native Jay Cox on taking Conference honors for his performance in Laredo, taking the individual title. Jay and the Lion Linksters head back up to North Texas for the always interesting Texoma Tournament at Tanglewood resort on March 3-4.
