So great to write this.
- Eric Rodriguez-Before I give him a game ball, let me say this. 3 years ago, E-Rod had what was at the point, his toughest game against a very good Incarnate Word team. This year, he has led his team to a historic win. He has been so loyal to this program and it was nice to see him get this one. Ron Peace went down, He stepped in and won it. That final option pitch run was a thing of beauty. Welcome back to the game ball column, E-Rod, it has been too long.
- Ron Peace-Before he went down, He kept the Lions in it and kept slinging it on the attack. He and Rodriguez combining for a 385 passing performance and commanded an offense that racked up 526 yards of total offense. Hope for a quick rehab, but he has played well the past 3 games.
- EJ Oakmon-5.6 yards per carry to go along with 2 touchdowns. The guy was very efficient on the ground and put the final nail in Incarnate Word’s coffin on a beautiful pitch run. Well done, sir.
- Paul Odidi-This was a MONSTER game for Odidi, who has come into his own and is blooming. Two huge touchdown passes to go along with 9 catches and 112 yards.
- Christian Jourdain-Jourdain was going to Jourdain, and he did. 6 catches for 104 yards and was often double covered. The Southland conference fears this guy.
- Devin Matthews-6 Receptions for 82 yards, but 2 HUGE touchdowns. We have needed a third serious receiving option and we have found it. This guy has been huge the past 3 games. We will need him in the final 5 games.
- Kyree Anderson-Dude had a monster game. MONSTER. Solo tackles, assisted tackles, caused a turnover, and had a sack. He should win conference DOPW honors for this one against a really good offense.
- Koby Sebasyan King-9 tackles and had just as much of a monster performance as his fellow Lion defender Kyree Anderson. Throw a sack lunch in there, and this guy gets a game ball, his first of hopefully many more.
- Devante Keys-Got a lot of penetration on the D-Line and was third on the team on tackles. His presence was certainly a factor, especially late in the game.
- Ozlo Rigby-Dude…….blasting pretty much every kickoff in the back of the end zone, hitting a critical field goal, and perfect on his PAT’s. We have not had a relibale field goal kicker/placekicker combo since the Jake Viquez/Aiden Martin days. It is so nice to have that back. So happy this guy is here.
- Ben Mehan…….I knew Incarnate Word was going cause us to punt, and when they did, we needed a guy to flip field, and he did. Ben Mehan is just a Freshman and if he keeps this up, he has a chance to be All-American by the time he leaves here, and I just pray he doesn’t leave via the transfer portal. Anyway, he averaged 44 yards on 2 punts and they were at critical times.
- Finally, The offensive line. Guys know that they are not looked at often, but when your offense rolls up over 500 yards of offense and puts up more points on Incarnate Word than anyone else has all season, They get a game ball for that one.
