Game Balls-Stephen F. Austin State

Here are the game balls for the huge win over Stephen F. Austin-

  1. The entire defense. This was a total unit effort, and it was the best, one of the best. One of our former writers here on the Lion Wire, Billy Minor used to use the phrase “Championship Level Defense.” That is what was running through my mind watching this unit making play after play. Every single player who played a snap on defense deserves a game ball. This is a top 5 performance in the almost 2 decades I have been watching Lion football. A total shutout in the second half, and a goal line stand for all the marbles. Wonderful performance.
  2. QB Ron Peace-When Ron Peace plays well, this team is always in the game and hard to beat. 22 completions for 312 yards and two touchdowns and he was also leading rusher. One thing I loved to see was Ron use his legs and take advantage of open field. The guy has athleticism, might as well use it.
  3. WR Jaden Proctor-I have been waiting for this guy to have a big game and this was the best time to have it. The guy averaged 25 yards per catch and is serving as a deep threat. He was terrific and welcome to the game ball corner!
  4. WR Christian Jourdain- The best weapon we have on offense had a fantastic game once again and made some huge catches. 6 catches for 86 yards and the catches were HUGE.
  5. Mitch McGarry-You look at his numbers and they don’t appear to be sexy, but he kicked the ball exactly where it needed to be. High and good hang time which allowed punt coverage and placed the ball inside the 20 multiple times. The Jacks came for him a couple of times, but he got good kicks off. This guy handles pressure so well.
  6. The offensive line-They were not perfect, but they kept Peace upright and allowed him to step up in the pocket and deliver quality passes. The team also rushed for 107 yards (net gain) and stepped up when the Lions needed one more first down to ice the game. They did just that. They also bought time for Peace to use his legs to find guys open downfield.
