Impact Players-
QB Ron Peace-If he gets the call, will he improve on last week’s disastrous performance?
QB Eric Rodriguez-If he gets the call, is he ready to get back and get healthy to lead the Lion offense?
RB BK Jackson-His 149 yards and two touchdown performance last week kept the Lions within striking distance of winning their first game this year.
WR Tyler Daniels-He has had 2 big games so far, but can he live up to the hype that he came to Commerce with?
DL Brandon Tucker-He was huge last week. He needs to keep that momentum going.
DB Jaden Rios-His INT was a turnover that should have put the game away for the Lions.
Storylines: Two weeks ago, the Lions over-performed. The past two weeks they have underperformed, especially on offense. Last week’s 6 turnovers doomed what would have been and should have been a solid win. That is all there is to it. Instead of 1-2 heading into a huge game against an FCS power that is looking to make the move to Division I FBS, they are 0-3 due to lack of execution on offense and sloppy play. Once again, the Lion defense, which is the strength of this team and has been for the past 6 years, has been hung out to dry to by an offense that won’t get out of it’s own way. What is tragic is that the Lions could very well be 2-1 in the midst of the toughest schedule they have ever played, or at least in recent memory.
Hopefully a warm crowd environment and a running game that finally found it’s footing will be enough to win, even against a tough Sac State squad. Even if the Lions come out of the non conference stretch 0-4, it is clear that this team is more talented and better coached than they were last year on all 3 sides of the ball. Like HC Clint Dolezel said, it is time to put it all together and learn how to win.
