Let’s Get To It-
Soccer-
Ashley Gordon’s squad remains in the thick of things in the Southland Conference race with a 4-2-1 record. Their last match was a tough 0-0 draw against Southeastern Louisiana in Commerce on an early Senior day. This weekend the Ladies have a tilt against Lamar in Commerce on Friday night, followed by a trip into Louisiana to face Northwestern State that Sunday. The regular season concludes the last week of October and then the conference tournament is the first week of November.
Volleyball-
The Lion Volleyball Women have won 2 of their past 3 matches heading into tomorrow night’s matchup against Southeastern Louisiana. They picked up wins this past week over Nicholls and as of last night, defeated long time rival Tarleton State in a Non-Conference Affair. After their Thursday night tilt, they will face off against Northwestern State at University Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon at 1. While they are 3-4 in conference and have an overall record under .500, there is a TON of Volleyball left to be played and there is a chance at having a promising first season, especially in the Southland Conference race.
Cross Country-
After a week off, The Lion Men and Women compete at Texas A&M this Saturday Morning in a stacked field of good XC teams. The Men start at 9, while the Women start at 9:45.
Golf-
The Men and Women teams competed at the Arkansas State Invitational. The Men bagged a 7th place finish out of a field of 11, while the Women took 14th out of 16. The Women wrap up their fall schedule with a trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas hosted by Little Rock University, while the Men head way out west to Las Cruces, New Mexico to wrap up their season at the New Mexico State Invitational, followed by a one day tournament at Baylor on October 31st.
Football-
The 3-2 Lions face off against McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana. 1-0 in Southland Conference play, the Lions face off against a 1-4 Cowboy squad that is not to be overlooked. Lion Quarterback Eric Rodriguez was named Honorable Mention for FCS player of the week, while the Lions were named honorable Mention for FCS team of the week. Also, Lion Wideout Andrew Armstrong leads Division I FCS with 6 touchdown catches, showing what a monster of a season he is having. Stay tuned this week as always for our matchup news and previews for this Saturday’s game.
