In order for someone to find a time where a Texas A&M-Commerce (or Formerly East Texas State) Football coach came in to the job taking over a Championship program, one would have to travel back to 1953. Milburn Smith had coached for 3 seasons and had amassed 3 Lone Star Conference Titles, a 30-2-1 record,…
Let’s get right to it, here are 5 post season thoughts. Another Step Forward-Getting back to the NCAA tournament, or making it, was the next step Jason Burton’s squad needed to take. Every year his group has been making upward trends. If you were to make a chart, it would see incremental and noticeable changes,…
As many of you know, Billy Minor has been writing for the Lion Wire for almost a year now. He is our most recent addition, and he has been a great addition to our staff. However today, myself and Russell McLean have decided to start something that both of us feel strongly about, and that…
For the fourth time in five years, the Lion Men are heading to the NCAA Division II tournament. One of the things I want to do is to show people that we have a pretty rich tradition in Basketball as well. There have been some dry eras, but for the most part, Lion Basketball has…

Just got back from the Comerica Center in Frisco, the Lion Women put together a well played and hard fought game to weather a late Eastern New Mexico rally to take down the Zias 77-70. This win was huge as the Lion Women were holding onto the 8th seed in the South Central Region, and…

The year was 1199. King Richard I of England was suppressing a rebellion in his territory when he walked toward the castle of his rival. He came too close and ignored warnings from his knights not to get too close, lest he might be struck by an arrow being fired by his enemy’s troops. He…
Some sad news to report to start. Arthur James, the only Lion to ever have his number retired in program history and the best running back in the history Lion Football and arguably the Lone Star Conference, passed away Sunday Night. The past 365 days have been rough seeing so many legendary Lions pass away.…
For the past 3 years, something I have wanted to do is to write a column on the first Black American Players that donned the Blue and Gold of Lion Football. As I was researching the players and coaches that I felt would be the ones prominently featured, I was reminded of a quote that…

We have had personal dedications to him over the past couple of days courtesy of Russell McLean, who had a personal relationship with him.
