Greetings, Lion fans, and in this week’s edition of the Notebook, we’ll take a look at one of the toughest, if not the toughest matchups all season, the Incarnate Word Cardinals. More on that in a bit. For now, let’s take a look back at last week… The Blue Gang had their best performance so…

Greetings, Lion fans, and it is indeed a very happy staff at The Wire after a badly needed win over McNeese State last Saturday at The Hawk. It was much bigger than expected. The offense, which had struggled all year, exploded behind junior Josh Magana and senior Raveon Hargrove for 470 total yards. Magana was…

Overall-I really don’t know what singular word use. Relieved? Maybe. Exhilarating? Sure. Happy? Absolutely. Last night this game turned out not the way that I was expecting, but so much better. Lions started off the game rough, but the tables turned when McNeese decided to go for it on 4th and goal and Lions stopped…

Greetings, Lion fans, and this week in the Notebook, we take a look at the McNeese State Cowboys, who, like the Lions, are winless in 2023. Before we dive in and see how the Lions break what has been a very unfamiliar thing- a losing streak. To say defensive coordinator Kyle Williams and his staff…

Greetings, Lion fans, and finally, the Lions return to the friendly confines of The Hawk after what seems an interminable 37 days. Let’s begin by addressing the elephant in the room. Yes, the Lions are 0-4. There’s no getting around that. Yes, the offense, up until last week, was absolutely horrendous. The Blue Gang, other…

I apologize for the late post, but I have not been feeling well on this Sunday, hopefully the last warm weekend of the year before Autumn rolls in, which is what we are looking at next week. Let’s get to it. Overall-Disappointing. Our offense had its best game and our defense had its worst. Special…

Greetings. Lion fans. This week, the Lions find themselves, while still on the road, back in the state of Texas. They take the short trip east to Nacogdoches to face the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin, coached by a former Lion, Colby Carthel. It is unbelievable to be happy after a loss to go 0-3,…

Greetings Lion fans. The staff here at The Wire enjoyed the week off, we were able to watch this week’s opponent, Old Dominion, as well the rest of the Southland Conference, but now it’s back to work. This week will certainly be the Lions biggest challenge of the 2023 season. When the 2023 season was…

Greetings, Lion fans, and in this week’s, Pre Snap Read, we’ll take a look at how the Lions match up against the Old Dominion University Monarchs and see if they’re able to snap out of their 0-2 and offensive funks. To that point, it won’t be an easy task. Old Dominion, despite coming into this…

Back in 2010, current Houston University coach Dana Holgerson was the offensive coordinator for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. A spread offense guru who had coached and played under the OG’s of the Air Raid offense in Mike Leach and Hal Mumme, Holgerson was known to vary from air raid orthodoxy and tinker with different formations.…

Overall-For some reason, I feel a little bit better about this week than last. We didn’t look totally overmatched, we greatly reduced the penalties and penalty yardage from last week, and overall our offense looked better, but still has so much work to do. Defensively this is the second straight week where we started out…

Much like was mentioned on the Call the Roll podcast last night, we speak of last week’s outing against UC-Davis here, then it…

Greetings, Lion fans, and while it might be difficult to discern positives from a 48-10 loss to UC Davis, there were some, and Head Coach Clint Dolezel and his team are going to have to seize on those positives and get ready to travel to the west coast for a date this Saturday night with…
