Last week, the Lion defense can be described as playing with one word…..inspired. For 2 1/2 quarters, the Lion Defense kept San Diego State out of the end zone and it looked like the Aztec rushing attack, which had been highly rated was going to be grounded. Then, the things that had haunted the Lion…
Let’s get to it- The Lion offense faces a familiar foe from last season, the California-Davis Aggies. UCD has some changes that were made over the offseason. Dan (IT”S DIVISION I FOOTBALL!) Hawkins stepped down after the season last year and is now at Idaho State working for his Son, former Colorado Quarterback Cody Hawkins…

Hard to believe that in under a week, Lion football kicks off, and facing the second FBS school in the history of the program on live TV is pretty exciting. I will say this, Russ was awesome at this and knew how to break down film and stats so much better than I ever could,…
I have been out of my parents house for almost 2 decades now. My Dad had a rule that was pretty hard and fast when I was growing up. Unless we didn’t have the time, Dad would say when we were on our way to school or church or anywhere else, make up our beds…
This season preview is dedicated to my dear late friend, Russell McLean. Game days and the Press box won’t be the same without you. I’ll see you again one day my dear friend. Overview: The 2023 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions experienced their worst season in over a decade. It was truly an enigma of a season,…
Let’s get straight to it- Overall, I felt it was a good day. Not perfect, but a good day. There were over 600 kids that showed up to Junior Day preview right before the Spring football game, and that shows something. A lot of people were in the stands and the intensity level was much…
The eclipse is not the only big thing coming up in North and Northeast Texas in a few days. The 2024 Blue and Gold Spring Football game will give us a preview of things to come in September and after last year’s awful season, it will be interesting to see if the changes that were…
Well, it is time for the Ladies. With a 13-15 record overall and 8-10 conference record, the A&M-Commerce Women’s team is looking to make another solid showing in the tournament, much like they did last year, but last year has a lot of differences from now. A new coach, a new staff, and many new…
Well, it is March, which means time for some madness. At least on the conference level. We still have two more full seasons left to play before we can become eligible for the big dance, and hopefully there is massive improvement made in the Men’s program before that happens, but for now, the best the…
Before I start, I will apologize for calling Don Meredith, one of the great Cowboys “Dan Meredith” in the last podcast, just don’t let my Dad know, he might disinherit Me. Ive been dealing with some radically bad allergies and sinus issues the past week so i’ll blame it on the medications. Good news is…
Greetings, Lion fans, and with the cancelation of the Northwestern State game, we have come to the end of the 2023 season. There are rumors of a replacement game to be held next week in Commerce, but there is nothing official yet. As soon as we know something, The Lion Wire will have it out…
Greetings, Lion fans, and we wish there were better news to report, but alas, there isn’t, so let’s get right to it…. OFFENSE: In a word, offensive. Despite 300 total yards, and averaging almost 3.5 yards per rush, the Lion offense sputtered yet again. What is so frustrating is that the same mistakes are being…
Greetings, Lion fans, and in this week’s edition of the Notebook, we’ll take a look at what seems to be a very even matchup between the Lions and Cardinals of Lamar this Saturday in Beaumont. First, though, we’ll take a look back at one of the most frustrating losses in 2023, 17-13 to Houston Christian.…
Greetings, Lion fans, and I wish there were better news to report than on a 1-7 season, but this is where they are entering into the final two games of the season this week against an improved 4-4 Lamar team and ending their 2023 season in Commerce against a 1-7 Southeastern Louisiana squad, who has…
Overall-I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is the new normal. We have lost 10 out of the last 11 games and something has become apparent this far into the season. This program is in over its head. The effort of the players has been there all year, and the defense…
Greetings, Lion fans. It’s Homecoming Week, and a date with the Colonels of Nicholls State awaits. We’ll have more on that in a bit, but first, let’s take a look back at what was a tough loss against Incarnate Word. There were definitely some high points. The Blue Gang held the top ranked offense in…
Greetings, Lion fans. It’s Homecoming Week, and in addition to what’ shaping up to be a very good game, Coach Ernest Hawkins’s last conference championship team, the 1983 squad, will be honored at halftime. Before we take a look at the homecoming matchup with the Colonels of Nicholls State, let’s take a quick look back…
