Frosch performs well at North Texas Pro Day, Game 2 Capsule Preview vs Stephen F. Austin State Lumberjacks

Record-Setting Former Lion Cameron Frosch

Record-Setting Former Lion Cameron Frosch

Yesterday I got a text message from former Lion Punter Cameron Frosch who informed me that he got good Feedback from his Pro Day performance at UNT. He also got a call from a scout from an NFL team who told him that he would be at the Super Regional Combine on the weekend of the 13th and 14th to watch him punt again. So things are looking good for our record setting punter. He could very well be with an NFL team next year. He has one more combine to go, and it is big one, so send some Lion Nation love Cameron’s way either by tweeting him or posting something on here. If you want to see some of his kicking videos, he has uploaded a ton of them on YouTube. He is going to be kicking with punters that played big time Division I Football, so he has a chance to represent himself and show just because he kicked D2 does not mean he does not belong on the same field with them, heck, he might deserve to be on the grandest fields of them all come the fall. Good luck to Cameron!

Overall Opining: I like putting SFA on the schedule for a multitude of reasons. First, they are Division I and have a ton of talent from their own Backyard. Most of the players are from East Texas and/or Deep East Texas, compare that to us, where our players are mostly from DFW and Northeast Texas, so two different breeds of Football player. From a SOS standpoint, a win would be big here, and going on the road to get one is really a challenge that is waiting for us. Homer Bryce Stadium is a fantastic place to play. It is a bowl shaped stadium deep in the hills of the campus and it really is a prime stadium, and very beautiful at that. Also, throw into that our offenses are similar, and we both can score a lot. SFA has also had quite a bit of success in past seasons.

Storylines: Brady Attaway quarterbacked the ‘Jacks last year and threw for over 4,000 yards. A big, strong and physical QB, he really put up big numbers despite the sub par record. Well, good news is that he is graduating and SFA will have to replace him at QB. SFA averaged 38 PPG last year, just a tad bit more than we did, but if you take a look at their scores from last year one thing pops out. They cannot play defense. They lost a lot of shootouts last year. Just look at these results.

08/31/13 at Weber State Ogden, Utah L, 50-40
09/07/13 at Texas Tech TV Lubbock, Texas L, 61-13
09/14/13 vs. McMurry Nacogdoches, Texas W, 50-13
09/21/13 vs. No. 2/3 Montana State TV Nacogdoches, Texas W, 52-38
09/28/13 vs. Prairie View A&M Nacogdoches, Texas L, 56-48
10/12/13 at Southeastern Louisiana TV Hammond, La. L, 56-14
10/19/13 vs. Nicholls State TV Nacogdoches, Texas W, 55-41
10/26/13 at No. 20/23 Central Arkansas TV Conway, Ark. L, 66-31
11/02/13 vs. No. 8/9 Sam Houston State TV Houston, Texas L, 56-49
11/09/13 vs. No. 11/13 McNeese State Nacogdoches, Texas L, 69-38
11/16/13 at Lamar Beaumont, Texas L, 46-45
11/23/13 at Northwestern State Natchitoches, La. L, 40-27

Just look at all those high scoring losses.

Another thing. Look at who they beat and almost beat. The number 2 team in the country, then almost took down the number 8 team in the country, granted that is their blood rival, but then look who they lose to. Prairie View A&M and Lamar, two very mediocre programs. This team can score and score a lot. We have one common opponent from last year, McMurry. They scored 50 on them, and we scored 65 on McMurry, but their defense played much better against the Warhawks than ours did. I know that is somewhat comparing apples to oranges, especially when you talk about attrition, but that is what it is. Speaking of attrition, I think that with most of our team coming back, and SFA losing a lot after a bum season, this is something that we can play into. Also, we have guys who could, and maybe should be, playing Division I Football. We have also had the challenge of going on the road against a Division I opponent, and we all so how well that worked out, when Houston Baptist scheduled us for their Homecoming and Carthel and Company went down to Houston and cleaned HBU’s clock. HBU is also a Southland Member, so we have a lot of webs that have been woven.

When it comes right down to it, I think it will be whichever offense has the better day, and whichever defense can get enough stops to preserve a win.

On September the 13th, two good offenses will be tossed into a Stadium and two teams will sort it out. This could be a Basketball like score, but you never know.
